Today 30-Nov-2019 opened A training course for 12 women from different sectors of the media
who are being trained on leadership and media management, in Kismayo, the capital of Lower
Juba region.
This two-day training organized by Media Women Network and supported by IMS and FOJO,
which are working Somali media organization development. But this workshop specifically
teaches women how to be involved in media leadership, balance male and female stories, how
could get their rights in all workplace, and how to change women working in the media who
have still working on news reading and entertainment programs.
It was attended by the Minister of Women’s Affairs of the Jubaland State, Ms. Qamar Dek
Khalif and the Minister of information, Abdi Hussein Sh. Mohamed.
Abdi Hussein appreciated the organizer and said, “We thank MWN for this wonderful work,
but I recommend them to continue to encourage female journalists and not be the first to be
trained,”.
The minister of women’s affairs Ms. Qamar has talked there for her part said, “It’s valuable that
women journalists unite and rely on each other to take their role in the media, this is part of the rights of women to get trainings that to develop their careers/skills,”.
Somali female journalist most of them are working unsustainable situation which couldn’t get their rights.
“This training it is important for us as female journalist in Jubbaland, because it would be rise up, the self-confidence and job ambitions for Women, at the same time it might give a women the opportunity would have the power to lead and management”. Najma Osman one of trainees.
Media Women Network is paying effort to get real change about women professionals in
media, so to do that it is important to encourage them to find out of their current situation and
then get out.
